ABOUT Udyam Registration?

According to a statement from the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises dated June 26, 2020, Udyam Registration is a new Registration process which was started in the year 2020.Udyam Registration, also known as MSME Registration, is a government-issued registration that comes with a certificate of recognition and a unique 19-digit Udyam Registration Number. This is for the purpose of certifying small and medium-sized businesses or organizations. The entity's owner, director, or proprietor must provide his or her 12-digit Aadhar Number.

ABOUT Udyam Registration?

Udyam Registration (also referred to as MSME Registration) is the Government of India’s fully digital, paperless system—introduced in July 2020 under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises—to formally register and recognize micro, small, and medium enterprises. Upon registration, businesses receive a unique 19-digit Udyam Registration Number and an e-certificate with a dynamic QR code for easy verification and credibility The process is based on self-declaration, and integrates real-time Aadhaar, PAN, GST (if applicable), and turnover databases.

As of 2024, over 4.77 crore MSME units are registered, and the platform has facilitated substantial credit access— approximately ₹15.6 lakh crore in bank loans—boosting MSME lending significantly.

From April 1, 2025, the MSME classification thresholds have been revised upwards to reflect inflation, growth, and evolving business needs.

An enterprise is classified grounded on either investment OR development, and it'll be reclassified automatically if these limits are crossed.

Documents Required for Udyam Registration

Completely Online & Paperless: The Udyam registration process is 100% digital, based on self-declaration, and requires no physical documents.

No Upload of Proof Documents: You do not need to upload any documents or certificates during registration.

Mandatory Information: Aadhaar Number of the business owner (Proprietor/Partner/Director) Mobile number linked to Aadhaar for OTP verification.

PAN & GSTIN Integration: From April 1, 2021, PAN and GSTIN have been mandatory for registration (except for businesses exempted under GST law). Investment and turnover details are auto-fetched from Income Tax and GST databases to determine enterprise category.

Self-declaration only for initial registration: Businesses that do not yet have PAN/GST at the time of registration may register on a self-declaration basis, but they must update PAN and GST within the prescribed time.
